100 Years

|

If you are reading this blog, you have between 1-100 years to live. Some of us will have a shorter time here on Earth and others of us will be here longer. Most of us see life rushing by so fast, but why is it rushing by so fast? Why does it feel like the years keep speeding up, moving faster and faster? A lot of times it has to do with what we fill our days with. We are so busy all of the time filling each minute of the day with activities, and wishing that we were at another time in life.

When I was 15 I could not wait until I was 16 so I could drive, but when I turned 16 I couldn’t wait until I was an upperclassman. Then I couldn’t wait until I was in college. . .and the vicious cycle continued on and on.

I still do that, I look forward to the future and say that I will have arrived when. Why is it that we cannot enjoy where we are at and enjoy the moments we are in? We quickly loose the moments in our lives and they are gone forever, you will never get them back.

There is no harm in looking forward, but it is the longing to get there too fast that seems to speed up our lives. We miss those moments that are right in front of us because we want to get from 25 to 26 so fast. One day you will look back and think, “Where did the time go?” You will look back at yourself at 15 and say, “There is still time, enjoy the moments, enjoy where you are at right now. Set goals and work at them daily, but don’t speed your life up!”

Don’t get hung up on yesterday and do not get hung up on tomorrow. We have goals, and you work towards them in the day that you have. Yesterday was yesterday, it’s gone and it’s not coming back. Tomorrow hasn’t happened yet and it may not happen. However it is hard for us to think in those terms.

In America the symbol for success is having “stuff,” but you are not taking it with you when you come to the end of your life. Society keeps pushing us to want more stuff and to accumulate more stuff. There is nothing wrong with having stuff, but it seems to start driving us. That’s what makes us want to get to the next year in life, to have more, to be more, and to have more power. Stuff keeps our minds off what is important. If you focus on what’s important, the rest seems to fall in place.

So what, we only have like 100 years to live? “Every day's a new day...15 there's still time for you, time to buy and time to choose. Hey 15, there's never a wish better than this, when you only got 100 years to live.” (Five For Fight, 100 Years)
